Birds do it, bees do it, have you seen the pigeons on the street do it? Well it is Spring after all!
And what a Spring it finally is in Toronto. This weekend I enjoyed the sun and the cherry blossoms. I also had the pleasure of attending a Male and Female Infertility workshop organized by www.aimedicine.ca. Opportunities for Acupuncturists & Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioners to continue education, not only fulfill our newly instated Regulatory College guidelines, it also encourages and increases information sharing and skill development within our community. This weekend was certainly a very full experience.
There are many factors that contribute to our fertility. When we have problems conceiving the best approach to treating infertility is a holistic one. Taking into account the entire life of an individual; genetics, lifestyle, state of mind and emotions, outlook and connection to life in relationship to our health history, is the core of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM).
It comes then at no surprise then that studies such as this http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/22243605 continue to show the efficacy of using Acupuncture and TCM during IVF protocols for example.
Acupuncture and herbal medicine has long helped regulate women’s cycles and is effective in dealing with issues of amenorrhea, dysmenorrhea, endometriosis, fibroids, cysts and egg quality. Working with Western Medical facilities has confirmed the effect that historically has been surmised through out the few thousand year practice of TCM.
The physical issues are considered to be on the same par as emotional and psychosocial factors that contribute to infertility as studies such as this one shows. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/21978220. The quality & quantity of care that both women and men receive in an acupuncturists office is of great value in the entire process. During times of disappointment in not being able to conceive and the euphoria once it happens!
Not as many studies have been done on the male side of things but that is changing. One thing that hasn’t changed are formulas such as this one, Supplement the Essence and Plant the Seed. Which is an effective formula for men in boosting sperm quality and can help with quantity as well.
This formula name reminds me of the nature of Spring and the very biological effect it has on us. By learning to regulate and balance in a natural and unencumbered flow we can do as the pigeons do!
