Founded in 1979, the MBSR program is a model of stress reduction developed by Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center. Mindfulness refers to a quality of attention that is receptively aware and non-judgemental. It develops by cultivating presence in each moment. For example, notice your breath as you read this word and the next… Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) is a program geared to enhance mindfulness in all aspects of your life. You may notice often you are “in your thoughts”- in the future or past, or simply “stressed-out”. This lack of presence leads to increased feelings of unease, separation from self and others – almost living life mechanically. With increased awareness, we have more options to change how we relate to ourselves and the world around us.

Eight Branches Healing Arts Centre contains a 700 square foot, ambient studio that hosts a variety of martial arts and exercise classes. These classes emphasize mind-body awareness.

The Eight Branches Academy of Eastern Medicine offers students a comprehensive education with a firm foundation in Traditional Chinese Medicine.
